Its 5 miles round-trip to the summit.
Cascade St. Helens Drop Spindle
Cascade Drop Spindle-St. Helens Drop Spindle
Our Price: $48.00 (Out of Stock)

St. Helens Drop Spindle by Cascade Spindle Company
Whorl shaped just like the crater! Beautiful, unusual black-line spalt and fiddleback maple woods with a walnut shaft. Weight approximately oz. to 1 oz. A one-of-a-kind collectors spindle, which spins forever!

At 8,364 feet (9,677 feet before May 18, 1980), Mount St. Helens is located in South West Washington about 50 miles North East of Portland, Oregon.  It is one of several lofty volcanic peaks that dominate the Cascade Range of the Pacific Northwest.  The 1980 eruption marked the re-awakening of a relatively young (40,000 years) volcano that had been dormant since 1857.  A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck beneath the volcano setting in motion the devastating eruption.  Snow and ice melted, forming torrents of water and rock debris; within minutes, a massive plume of ash thrust 19 km into the sky, where the prevailing wind carried about 490 tons of ash across 57,000 sq.km. of the Western United States.

At 10,778 feet in elevation, it is the most isolated of the Cascade volcanoes.  Mt. Baker is the third highest mountain in the State of Washington.  Baker has an aesthetic shape that “pops up” surprisingly from many vantage points in the Cascades and around Puget Sound.  The mountain wears a heavy mantle of ice with exceptional beauty.  After Mt. Rainier, it is the most heavily glaciated of the Cascade volcanoes.  Due to its many glaciers, local Native Americans gave Mt. Baker a name meaning “White Steep Mountain”.

At 14,410 ft. the highest peak in the Cascade Range is a dormant volcano whose glacier ice exceeds that of any other mountain in the United States.  Together with perennial snow patches, glaciers cover about 36 square miles of the surface.  It dominates the Seattle-Tacoma area, where more than 1.5 million know it fondly as The Mountain.  The mountain is surrounded by old growth forest and stunning wildflower meadows.  Mount Rainier is the most dangerous volcano in the Cascade range, owing to the large population and to the huge area and volume of ice and snow on the cone.

Cascade Spindle Pilchuck
Cascade Spindle Pilchuck Drop Spindle
Our Price: $44.98 5 in stock!

Cascade Mt. Pilchuck Drop Spindle
I recently added this spindle to my collection and I am so pleased with its performance. The spindle is actually dished out on the underside of the whorl which places the weight around the outer rim. This spindle will spin for days. It is still light enough to do fine yarn on but heavy enough to keep a really nice spin going. I must say I was really surprised by this spindle. I have to admit that before I spin on it I thought it was pretty but didn't think it had anything particularly cutting edge about it but I'm pleased to say I was way off. This spindle is wonderfully balanced and designed and is of impeccable quality which is everything I have come to expect from Cascade Spindles.
Rachel at Paradise Fibers

This is the spindle you've been awaiting to spin designer yarns and also the ultimate plying spindle. Engineered for an easily-controlled, fast, long and consistent spin. Maple, rim-weighted, long shaft, weight under 1-7/8 oz.
At 5,340 ft., it is located only a 90 minute drive from Seattle. Save Mount Pilchuck for a  clear day, because the views of the Olympics and the Cascades from the old fire lookout on  top are the stuff of dreams. This is one of the few short trails in the region that reaches  the summit of a major peak. Pilchuck was first climbed in 1897 by topographers; by 1918 the U.S.  Forest Service had established a rough trail to the summit. In 1991 the first lookout house was  completed and most recently renovated. You may feel like you're in a fairy tale as the trail winds  through a giant's garden of boulders, flowers and rivulets.
