I bought one of these in the large size at my LYS, and love it! Admittedly, I've not used foam or any other materials for needle felting. However, the brush mat is an excellent choice of work surface. One thing to note: the bristles hold onto the roving. It's good in that it helps hold your project still, but not as good in that the side on the brush mat gets quite fuzzy. However, still an excellent choice.
