Earthues Natural Dye Kits
|
|
It
is becoming apparent that green is the newest color in natural dyes.
We are witnessing a burgeoning eco-consciousness all over the world
as we confront the effects of our changing climate: environmental
topics are constantly at the forefront. Although it is easy to feel
overwhelmed by the issues, it is thrilling to hear designers, artists
and even visionary manufacturers state that they want to create their
art and products with environmental and social impacts in mind. For us
at Earthues, that means a growing interest in natural colors and non-toxic dye processes.
In
the past year, I have been traveling from the remote corners of
northeast India to the desert of Uzbekistan to the streets of Manhattan,
teaching and consulting with artisans and indigenous groups on natural
colors. At the same time, we are engaging with a growing
number of artists and colorists worldwide who want to create or convert
their livelihoods to natural colors. These are exciting times!
We
are thrilled to be carrying an improved version of Quebracho Red, a
wood dye from the Americas. Our formulation is yielding a clearer,
red, which is spectacular when used alone or in combination with other
Earthues extracts. As well, we are now offering chopped,
dried weld flowers from our friend Coby Vandergaast in British
Columbia. She is a former organic basil grower, who has converted her land to grow several dye plant crops for Earthues, and the pure yellow that her plants give is amazing.
Join us in the color journey - the path is beautiful, sustainable and very rewarding.
Hues to you,
Michele Wipplinger
