Wool Pak New Zealand is great for felting! We are thrilled to be carrying this beautiful yarn! I like it because it is not overly processed, so it is wonderfully in all the popular knit-then-felt patterns. It is luxurious yet durable, spun mainly from Perendale type fleeces. There is large palette of natural colors, as well as an expanded range of solids as well as handpainted hanks. It is put in economical 250g skeins. Wool Pak yarns are produced in New Zealand by the Merino Sheepskin Company.

 

The main two types of sheep we use to produce the correct type of wool are either the Perendale or the Romney or a cross of both. We carefully select the raw wool clip, this is from only the younger sheep and only two times a year when the wool on their back is at it's best. Only a small amount of wool is suitable.

 

The wool fiber must be a very natural white luster, be 4"-6" long and the minimum micron measurement must be around 30-32 micron (the finest of the wool fiber). The wool fiber is washed, but not to much as to remove the lanolin from the wool. We do mix the natural black and grey fibers to the right amount to gain the required shade for the stipples and natural shades.
