The same Euroflax yarn that you love now available in hand dyed colors! Louet Euroflax Sport is one of the few yarns that actually improves with machine washing over time! Flax has been used since times of old for creating garments that are light, airy and well suited for warmer climates with its superb breath-ability. As with all flax and hemp yarns Euroflax will soften and look even more beautiful with more washes. The factory where the yarn is spun has been in operation for several generations and they are capable of very high quality, fine yarn production including double-boiling the yarn to give a very soft and exceptional quality. They also steam process the yarn to ensure maximum softness. This is a fantastic linen yarn that is unrivaled for price and quality. Try soaking this yarn in hair conditioner and water to soften it before knitting if you like, many of our customers do this regularly as it's a bit stiff to knit without soaking. Our long line linen yam is made out of flax-fiber which is wet spun.
Flax is a vegetable product. It is called "long line" because it grows
more than a yard tall. When it is standing in the field, it is a
beautiful sight - a field ftill of bright blue flowers, waving in the
wind. At harvest time the flax is cut and laid to dry. The linen fiber
is in the long stems.
Since crops vary from year to year, so
does the quality of flax vary, even the wet-spun. To get a consistent
quality, the factory will blend several years of crops together. The
factory where our yam is spun has been in operation for several
generations. They have developed a way of splitting the fibers very
fine, and double-boiling the yam to be able to give us a really soft
and exceptional quality. Within the last year we have added our own
steam processing equipment to ensure our yam is of maximum softness.
This
wonderful Euroflax yam has been used by hand-knitters for more than 20
years in North America. We at Louet North America have been carrying
this wonderful yam for more than 10 years. We have recently developed
new and exciting yams in this line. We have also developed and continue
to develop patterns for this yam in all weights.
Linen sweaters
feel cool in the summer, due to its breathing capability. They are
wonderful to wear and are machine washable using a non-bleach mild
soap. We recommend 'SOAK' so that deep colors are not damaged by
detergents. For best results, dry the garment in the dryer for 15
minutes, then lay flat to finish drying. With wearing it will become
very soft with a beautiful lustrous silky effect. After you have made
one sweater out of our Euroflax linen, you will definitely want to make
another one.
Tips for knitting with Euroflax Linen
-
Most importantly, you must wash and dry all samples before measuring
gauge. The knitted fabric relaxes after the first time it has been
washed.
- Due to the nature of this yam, it is not suitable for standard ribbing, on either bottom borders or neckbands.
- Knit-in-hems, rolled borders and garter stitch borders all work wonderfully with this yam.
-
This yam is more suitable for pattern knitting than for plain knits.
Small areas of plain knitting are fine though. The Worsted Weight Yam
can be used for plain knitting.
- Please pay special attention to the recommended needle size given for each yam.
- Larger needles should only be used for lacy patterns.
-
For your first project we highly recommend using one of our patterns,
in order for you to get the feel of this wonderful yam.
