These are some of the best hand spindles available! Adapted from the work of a Norwegian fiber anthropologist.  Each spindle is balance tested and we guarantee they will spin true and proper. The 0.6 oz version of the Nordic, a wonderful weight for merino and other fine fibers. 10" poplar shaft and 3" diameter walnut whorl that detaches for travel. This spindle simply has no equal. The standard size spindles are made out of 100% cherry wood. Designed by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts created by Jiorn Piel

I too thought the spindle was a  mid-whorl.  Not very happy with it.  Will hang on to it and maybe I can give it away.

I got this spindle thinking it was a mid-whorl spindle (from the picture). I was incorrect, but I like the spindle anyway, so who cares. It is a top whorl spindle, and you can put the whorl on from the top or the bottom.

The whorl can easily get off-set, but is also easily corrected. It is lightweight, and you can remove the whorl for traveling, which is nice.

There is no notch on the whorl, but that is irrelevant - you don't need to use any special techniques to keep the whorl in place.

All in all a good spindle.
