This great kit has everything you need to make a great pair of socks. This Austermann Sock kit has everything that you will need in a cute drawstring basket which makes for a really nice presentation as a gift.Whether you are treating yourself to this kit or buying it as a gift for someone you won't be disappointed.
The peak experience pattern is two different designs in one. One of the designs is more lacy and feminine and the other has a masculine appeal to it. Fiber Trends is really great about having their patterns written out and having a chart. I really like Fiber Trends and have found their patterns to be clear and error free.
Lantern Moon Sox Stix These little needles are simply elegant double pointed needles. You will be charmed by their cute presentation and impressed with their ease of use. The needles are perfect for socks, mittens, gloves and other small projects. The points are pointy but not sharp and won't prick your fingers.The wood also holds the stitches ever so slightly which helps if you travel with your projects and have a tendency to lose stitches while it is packed away. I can throw my socks in my backpack and when I pull the project out later every stitch is where I left it. The sox stix work great with the austermann sock yarn. stitches slide right along as I�m knitting.
Austermann Sock Yarn is 75% Superwash Virgin Wool and 25% Nylon. This magical Austermann Step sock yarn makes a soft and wonderful sock in new colors! Many of the Austermann Step colors are well suited for men as well as women and so comfortable. Use a US #1 - US #3 needle for knitting.

This is an amazing sock yarn from Austermann and a favorite in our shop to be sure with our customers and family. The thing that really struck me about the yarn is how much air is spun into it. Step has a nice lightweight and springy yarn that has a really soft feel. Austermann Step Yarn 1

The jojoba oil that is in the yarn makes it a pleasure to knit with. Don't worry though, there is absolutely no greasy feel or anything like that, it just softens your hands as you knit. I'm making my brother Travis here at the shop a pair of socks with this yarn and he can't wait for me to finish them. This yarn knits well with the Lantern Moon Sox Sticks which are a little pricey but worth it. I found that I could throw the socks I am working on in my backpack and every stitch would still be on the needles when I pulled my knitting project out again. The Sox Sticks hold this yarn just enough to keep the stitches on the needles but my knitting slides right along when I'm working. This yarn, like pretty much every yarn on the market, would also work well with the addi turbo knitting needles.

You will love the array of colors that Austermann Step yarn is available in and many of the colors guys seem to like which is rare. This yarn will surprise you with how much cushion it has and its soft feel. I'm treating myself to some of these socks next!

After many requests I finally started making Travis some socks as I mentioned above. I chose to use the Austermann Step yarn color 17 and I used The Knitters Handy book of Patterns for the sock pattern. I have made the socks in this book many times and they always turn out great. I love being able to knit a swatch and find my guage and adjust the pattern to my guage vs. adjusting my needles or yarn to fit a guage. I used the Lantern Moon rosewood sox stix in size 5 and size 3 for the socks. I needed two balls of yarn because I knit 9 inches of ribbing for the ankles and my brother has pretty big feet (size 11.5). I chose to end the ribbing when I started the feet rather than continue it down the top of the foot. I have a special trick to avoid holes when I pick up the instep stitches and that is to pick up an extra stitch at either end and immediately knit them together. This can be rather awkward but it is well worth the extra effort. I learned this from the tips and tricks section in The Knitters Handy book of Patterns. The instructions in the book for grafting using the kitchener stitch were really well explained and I didn't have any trouble getting a great toe on the socks. The result is one very happy big brother. Be sure to ask to see his socks when you stop by the shop in Spokane. He probably will be wearing them. Happy Knitting!
