Tech Square Afghan Workshop

If you're like me you've always wanted to make an afghan BUT....too many squares you don't understand or maybe it's just too overwhelming.  We're going to break it down into a square a month.  The wonderful thing about this beautiful afghan is that each square teaches you a new knitting technique.  There are twelve squares so over the next year we will work on completing our afghan.  This afghan is designed to give both old and new knitters a chance to try skills they may have found intimidating or that they simply want to try on a smaller scale.  It will allow you to have a sampler which you can return to at any time to see how different techniques look and function.  Putting the squares together is another chance to try out a new technique.  Instead of being sewn together this afghan is knit together.  This means soft, flexible joins so your finished afghan will feel almost like it was knit in one piece.

Sign up for as many classes as you'd like.  If you only want to sign up for a couple use your squares to make pillows. 

Once we get going we will have additional make up/help classes available as well.

1. March 14 Cables and Lace Square.  Techniques used will be crocheted chain provisional cast-on, following lace and cable charts, various increases and decreases.
2. April 11th Increase Square Techniques used will be crocheted chain provisional cast-on, half-hitch increases, kfb-inc, yarn over, m1 increases, mattress stitch seam
3. May 9th Decrease Square Crocheted chain provisional cast-on, circular knitting, different methods of decreasing, reading a pattern chart, working on double pointed needles.
4. June 13th Forest-For-The-Trees Square Chart Reading, various traveling stitches, increasing in the stitch below.
5. July 11th Pocket Square Attached knitted cord, knitting up stitches, 3-needle join, doubling stitches for two pieces, 3-needle cast-off, waste yarn opening.
6. July 18th Pocket Square Part Two
   
7. August 22nd Embellishment Square Knitted cord, embellishments
8. September 12th Intarsia Square Following a chart, interlocking yarns in intarsia
9. October 10th Enterlac Square Picking up stitches on both knit and purl sides of work
10. November 14th Domino Square Preparing an edge for stitches to be picked up, various double decrease.
    
11. December 12th Slipped Stitch Square Picking up stitches, reading a slip stitch chart
12. January 9th 2010 Fair Isle Square Creating knitting and cutting a steek, backward loop cast on, charting, 2-handed stranded knitting in the round, double hem with 3-needle join.
13. January 30th Fair Isle Part Two
    
14. February 13th 2010 Monogram Square Duplicate stitch
15. March 13th FINISHING  Yay, we're done!  We'll work on our borders and assembling the squares.

Cost is $20 per session or $15 if you sign up for all of them at once.
