Country Classics Fiber Dye

This is the easiest fiber dye you'll ever use!  Just 3oz of Country Classics Dyes two pounds in only 30 minutes! Country Classics Dye works well with protein fibers (animal fibers like wool, angora, silk, nylon, mohair, and alpaca) and is cheaper than Kool Aid dyeing with professional results!  You can dye roving, yarn, fabric and more with this easy to use professional fiber dye. This is the dye we use here at the shop for our famous rhapsody handpainted rovings!

#How to use Country Classics Dye:

1. Wear rubber gloves when using dye always
2. All utensils and tools you're going to use should never be used for food prep.
   

Immersion Dyeing with Country Classics

• Wet out the fiber by measuring a 1/2 teaspoon of Synthrapol liquid or liquid dishwashing soap in 2.5 gallons of warm 110 Degrees Fahrenheit for each lb of fiber.  Soak fiber for at least 30 minutes.
• Prepare the dye bath.  Your dye pot should be stainless steel or unchipped enamel.  Measure the desired amount of water from the chart below.

3.  Dissolve the Country Classics Dye Powder.  Measure the desired amount of dye powder from the chart below into a 1 cup Pyrex measure.  Add approximately 1/4 cup of boiling water and stir to make a lump free paste.  Then add water to make 1 full cup of dye solution.  Stir thoroughly and add it to the day bath.

4.  Add the fiber.  Carefully add the water saturated fiber.  Gradually heat the dye bath to a boil (make sure you only raise the temperature to 185 degrees F or silk).  Gently simmer the fiber for 30 minutes, stirring continually and gently to get even color results.  If, after 30 minutes you have color left in the dye bath, then add 2TBL of white distilled vinegar for every 4 ounces of fiber.  Simmer for another 10 minutes then turn the heat off and let the dye bath cool to room temperature.

5.  Rinse and dry the fiber.  Once the dye bath has cooled down then remove the fiber and rinse it a couple of times in lukewarm water.  Squeeze out any excess water and air dry.  You can discard the dye bath down down the drain with no harmful effects to sewer or septic systems.

Optional:  Mom here at the shop says the final rinse can include a few tablespoons of vinegar to help set the dye.  Happy Dyeing!
